After being closed for about three years for renovations, the historic
Clifton's Cafeteria in downtown Los Angeles is on the verge of
reopening. (It should be reopened to the public by sometime in October.)

In the 20s and 30s, Los Angeles cafeterias were very popular with
homesick immigrants from Iowa and other midwestern states. Clifford
Clinton, who founded Clifton's, apparently knew how to draw the
customers. I think Carey McWilliams covers him in one of his Federal
Writers Project books.

It's open! I visited, they did a good job. The roast beef sandwich was quite good.

But the button that starts the mini-chapel's audio is still broken :-(
