Post by Sam D.Why would people of celebrity status want to hang around "affordable" haunts
where they will be pestered by hordes of starstruck gawkers and autograph
seekers that seek to infringe on what little privacy they might enjoy while
dining out?
People for the most part are polite and don't bother them. I've run into
a lot of athletes and entertainers in public and I've yet to see any
pestered by anyone to the extent that they were a nuisance. Usually no one
goes up to them at all. Here in LA celebrities are so commonplace that
people usually give them their privacy. I'm sure it happens that sometimes
people annoy them, of course.
An acquaintance ran into Keanu Reeves at Chaya Venice. He was sitting alone
at the bar. She didn't recognize him until half-way through their
conversation. She was trying to decide what to order and asked him if he
liked what he was having. He gave her some to try. She confirmed later with
the staff that it was indeed Keanu. You'd be surprised how hard it can
be to spot celebrities even when they are well-known. My mom worked at
a bank in Beverly Hills and half the time only knew someone famous had come
in because a teller announced it after the fact. The bigger the celebrity,
the more secretive, of course. I've seen Kirk Douglas, but seeing someone
like Liz Taylor or Madonna is more of a big deal and does indeed cause more
of a commotion than your garden-variety celebrity.
Anyway, I've seen celebrities at Koo Koo Roo, Starbucks, Ralphs market,
Zankou Chicken, and Fatburger among other places. Sometimes a celebrity
just wants fast food, you know?
